FORGIVENESS

So today’s post is on Forgiveness 🥲🤭😇 not your regular blog right 😀. It surprises me too the topics the Holy Spirit lays on my heart. The blog was started by Him anyway, so I don’t have a choice 😁. We moveeee 💃.

I bet you were expecting life series🤣 like how I walked 600 miles from Nigeria to the UK 🤪😇 sorry our bubbles were burst🤣. Mine was genuinely burst. God indeed has an amazing sense of humour.

Okay, let’s get into today’s topic. I will try to keep it short cos this topic is deeeeeepppp🥵. I promise I tried to keep it short. Please enjoy 🙏😇♥️.

What is the real meaning of forgiveness?

Forgiveness means different things to different people. But in general, it involves an intentional decision to let go of resentment and anger 🥵 (guilty🙈). The act that hurt or offended you might always be with you. But working on forgiveness can lessen that act’s grip on you 🙏. Help me, Lord!!!

Forgiveness involves a conscious decision to release the desire for revenge or punishment and instead offer understanding, compassion, or pardon to the person who has caused harm. Forgiveness can be a healing and liberating experience, benefiting both the forgiver and the forgiven. It does not necessarily mean condoning the wrongdoing but rather choosing to move forward without holding onto grudges or negative emotions. Very important 🙃🙈🤭. Help me, Lord.

What is forgiveness in Bible?

Biblical forgiveness includes forgiving everyone, every time, of everything, as an act of obedience and gratefulness to God.

Forgiveness holds a special place in the teachings of the Bible. The Bible offers profound insights on the significance of forgiveness, its transformative power, and the role it plays in our spiritual journey.

Forgiveness as Divine Grace:

The Bible emphasises that forgiveness is a divine act of grace. In Ephesians 4: 31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ forgave you.” This verse reminds us that forgiveness is a reflection of God’s love and mercy towards us, and we are called to extend that same grace to others. Let’s examine a few Bible references about extending forgiveness to others;

The Lord’s Prayer:
In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray for forgiveness. This prayer underscores the reciprocal nature of forgiveness – as we seek forgiveness from God, we are also called to forgive those who have wronged us.

Matthew 6:9-15 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’”

Forgiving Seventy Times Seven:
In Matthew 18: 21-22 “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’” This metaphorical expression signifies that forgiveness should be boundless and not limited by a specific number. It encourages us to cultivate a forgiving heart continuously. If possible, forgive in advance because people will always wrong you, and you will also wrong others 🙂.

Parable of the Prodigal Son:
The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) illustrates the Father’s unconditional forgiveness and Love. Even after his son squanders his inheritance, the Father forgives him and welcomes him back with open arms. This parable reminds us of God’s unending love and willingness to forgive when we repent. He wants us to always run back to him because 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Forgiveness and Healing:
The Bible also teaches that forgiveness is closely tied to our own healing and well-being. In Psalm 32:5, it says, “I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin.” Confession and forgiveness bring inner peace and restoration.

Let’s look at a few more Bible verses on forgiveness:

Luke 5: 20 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’”

Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

Matthew 6: 14-15 “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Colossians 3:13 “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

Psalm 103:12 “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”

Daniel 9:9 “The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.”

Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more …”

Isaiah 1: 18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.’”

Mark 11:25 “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Conclusion:

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”♥️

God loves us immensely. His greatest gift to humankind; His Son, Jesus Christ; reflects that love and is central to His plan of happiness for all of His children.

Forgiveness, as understood through the lens of the Bible, is a powerful and transformative act. It mirrors God’s ultimate plan of Love and Grace, calls for a heart of compassion, and has the potential to mend broken relationships and bring spiritual healing. As we strive to live by these biblical teachings, we not only honor our God but also contribute to a more harmonious and forgiving world.

And yes, I love emojis. A little light to the world🤣🙏😇♥️.

Till next time……✌️❤️💫
